Ljubljana

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, located in the central part of Slovenia, between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea. The city spreads along the banks of the Ljubljanica River.

The modest charm of the city conquers everyone who has ever visited the capital of Slovenia.

According to the legend, the founder of Ljubljana was the Greek prince Jason. According to legend, the Argonauts, led by Jason, who stole the Golden Fleece from King Ait, sailed from the Black Sea along the Danube River. From it they got into the Sava River and then into the Ljubljanica River. Somewhere in these places, Jason encountered a terrible monster, and, having fought with him, defeated him. Since then, the Ljubljana Dragon - a monster has settled in the upper tower of the Ljubljana Castle. The Dragon is the symbol of the city.

Residents of the capital, as well as many guests of the city, say that Ljubljana is a city created “to order”.Although it is one of the average European cities and retains the attractive friendliness of a small town, it has everything that big capitals have - it is the political and cultural heart of the Slovenian nation, an important European trade, business, congress and exhibition center, as well as transport, scientific and educational center of Slovenia.

The location between north and south has naturally defined Ljubljana as a meeting place for merchants and soldiers, as well as negotiators who have repeatedly made peace here. It seemed appropriate to the victors in the Napoleonic Wars to convene a congress of the Holy Alliance in this peaceful place where paths cross and people meet from time immemorial, deciding for a time the fate of European political geography in 1821...

In Ljubljana, the old is lovingly intertwined with the modern, and it seems that the history of all 5 millennia has prepared the city to become the capital. The city was lucky to keep traces of all periods of rich history; heritage of the Roman Emona, the historic center of the city with Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau facades, romantic bridges adorning the Ljubljanica river, twisted roofs and a park extending deep into the city.

The name Ljubljana is an etymological explanation - "Beloved", for everyone who has a place in their hearts.
